If we talk about wholesale drug license then unlike retail drug license, Pharmacist is not compulsory
If you go to take retail drug license then pharmacist is compulsory, either you yourself pharmacist or your employee pharmacist but you can’t get retail drug license without pharmacist but when we talk about wholesale drug license, pharmacist is not compulsory for wholesale drug license
There you can get wholesale drug license in two ways
Either at pharmacist registration or if you have one year experience at wholesale licensed firm after graduation then also you are considered eligible to take wholesale drug license
If you want to take wholesale drug license and you are not pharmacist then also you can take wholesale drug license on the basis of one year experience at wholesale drug firm after graduation but final decision depends at drug authority.
In case of pharmacist, you can get wholesale drug license easily and won’t get much objection but when license is to issue at experience basis then final decision depend at drug authorities whether they consider you eligible or not.

First step: is to take experience in pharmaceutical sector.
Whether you are from pharma background or non-pharma background
If you want to start pharma wholesale or any kind of pharma business then taking experience in pharma is must because pharma sector is very much different from other sector. Here working is very different so taking experience in pharma is essential
If you don’t have experience in pharma then you can get loss rather than profit during pharma business and leave business after some time because you won’t be able to understand how pharma business works? So, taking experience in pharma is essential
When you have taken experience in pharma then second step is to apply for wholesale drug license.
When we go for apply to wholesale drug license then there are some requirements. Some documents are required and some formalities is to be fulfilled for applying for wholesale drug license
First you need to fill the application form
Second if we will talk about premises/shop area then it should be above 10 sq. meter
If you want to do wholesale plus retail then area requirement is 15 sq. meter
Shop/premises should be made proper of bricks, it should be cemented, the floor should be there, that means your shop or premises should be in a proper hygienic condition
Other than these Documents are
- Your experience letter if license is applied at experience basis or pharmacist registration if applied at basis of registered pharmacist
- If wholesale drug licensed owner don’t have either of EP or pharmacist registration then you will require to hire an employee having these qualifications and there documents will be submitted
- You have to deposit required fee
- Address proof copy
- If your shop/premises is rented then you have to submit rent agreement. If owned then have to submit ownership proof.
- Refrigerator purchase bill copy
- EP/Pharmacist educational certificate copy
- Birth Proof certificates of owner/pharmacist/EP
- Affidavits
- If firm is partnership then partnership deed will be submitted
- in case of private limited company, documents will be submitted accordingly
- 3 copy of blue print of shop/premises
Premises/shop should have adequate storage space
When you get wholesale drug license then next step is to take distribution of a pharmaceutical company. You need to take distribution of a pharmaceutical company. Pharmaceutical sector has different types of distributions.
You can take generic products distribution. For generic product distribution, you can contact generic medicine pharma company.
You can contact with ethical pharmaceutical companies those promote their products to doctors by hiring medical representatives
You can take franchise of a pharmaceutical franchise company and start distribution at monopoly basis
You can work of medical device distribution
You can start distribution of raw material and active pharmaceutical ingredients
Whichever type of distribution you want to start you can contact that type of company
You can get their contact information from their website or contact their sales team for distribution and wholesale if their distribution is vacant at your area or not. If vacant then accordingly you can contact them and start your wholesale pharma distribution business
