What is the difference between pcd pharma and franchise pharma?

I am ——- from Narela(Delhi). I am D.pharm passed out in —–.I want to start my own business. What is the difference between pcd pharma and franchise pharma? I read your posts but I am not clear about the difference. And what about selling products through my company name through third party manufacturing? My budget is 50 thousand only. And how to establish my company name into big brand name like cipla/mankind? I have no experience about marketing.

 

Response:
In reality both pcd pharma and franchise pharma are co-related word. You can use both of words for same thing. Both terms is used for own marketing with pharma company at monopoly rights at mutually agreed term.

They have only minor difference is that pcd is used for small scale own pharma marketing and Franchise term is used at large scale own pharma marketing. For most of companies and distributors or marketing persons, these terms doesn’t matter. They consider both as same. No one go in deep to find the meaning of these terms. They use one term in place of other. In other words, don’t confuse with these term, consider both terms same.

You can start your own marketing company with name as you want and get manufactured your products at third party basis from pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. Read whole third party manufacturing process here.

Budget for starting own marketing company doesn’t matter if you have enough knowledge and relationship to sell your own products. Few person start with minimum amount and become successful entrepreneur but few couldn’t be successful even after investing few crore in his company.

Its good to start own business but without any prior knowledge of marketing and sale, we will not suggest you to start any type of business. Starting and establishing business is not as simple and easy as it feels. It is toughest thing that is done by anyone in his career.

Before starting your own company, you should work with other companies and learn all aspects of business, administration, sales and marketing. We don’t mean you should be master in all segments but at least you should have clear and good knowledge of all things. Work for at least 3-4 years or as you find satisfactory and when you feel, you can sell your own products in this competitive market then think to start your own company. I want to know that if someone purchases medicine from Delhi wholesale market then at what price will it be sold in own city wholesale market. How to calculate trade of different medicine and profit margin?

Response:

Selling price will depend at type of product and available rate of that products in your particular market. We don’t know much about Delhi whole sale market but We have heard that you can get all branded medicines at affordable price their and they even provide medicines without invoice. We may be wrong here in below calculation. You should first make proper research in market before make any decision.

In case of branded medicines, you can get any branded medicine at c&f price which is approximately 60% of MRP or less. If you are small distributor then you can sale it at nearly 80% of MRP. If you are retailer then you can sell it at MRP.

In case of generic medicines, you can get medicines at very low rates at compare to local distributor or stockist. You can purchase from Delhi Whole sale market and sell them to local distributors or stockist at reasonable rates and you can earn good margin.

I am looking to become a franchise for the company who has track record of maintaining best efficacy.

Response:

Its difficult to predict track record of any company. You can check drug department sites and pharma related newspapers for sampling failing list of all companies time to time. Even multi national companies sample fails the efficacy test. But most of companies try to maintain best efficacy. Mostly shortage of goods problem occur with pcd/franchise companies. If company give assurance about shortage of goods, you can start with it. One more thing you can do by getting certificate of analysis of all products you want to purchase. You can also separately send products for testing occasionally for your assurance.

Area Requirement is depend at number of sections you want to start. Minimum area required under drug and cosmetic act is 1200 square feet. if unani medicines are manufactured in same premises additional 400 square feet area is required. Section wise partition is required as per dosage form. Competent Person Staff Qualification For Manufacturing:

The manufacture of Ayurvedic (including Siddha) or Unani drugs shall be conducted under the direction and supervision of competent technical staff consisting at least of one person, who is a whole-time employee and who possesses minimum of any of the following qualifications, namely:-

  • A degree in Ayurveda or Ayurvedic Pharmacy, Siddha or Unani system of medicine, as the case may be, conferred by a University, a State Government or Statutory Faculties, Councils and Boards of Indian Systems of Medicine recognised by the Central Government or a State Government for this purpose, or
  • A diploma in Ayurveda, Siddha or Unani System of medicine granted by a State Government or an Institution recognised by the Central Government for this purpose, or
  • A graduate in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Chemistry or Botany of a University recognized by the Central Government with experience of at least two years in the manufacture of drugs pertaining to the Ayurvedic or Siddha or Unani system of medicine, or
  • A Vaid or Hakim registered in a State Register of Practitioners of indigenous systems of medicines having experience of at least four years in the manufacture of Siddha or Unani drugs, or
  • A qualification as Pharmacist in Ayurvedic (including Siddha) or Unani systems of medicine, possessing experience of not less than eight years in the manufacture of Ayurvedic or Siddha or Unani Drugs as may be recognised by the Central Government.
Competent Person Staff For Laboratory:

  • A graduate in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Chemistry or Botany of a University recognised by the Central Government

After that you can start distribution and marketing of your brands. OTC products ( Over the counter products) are the products which don’t require medical practitioner’s prescription to sell medicinal products to the customers by chemist or pharmacies in pharmaceutical market. Your main customers are patients or person who are in need of that products. Chemist and pharmacies also play important role in Pharma OTC marketing. They play important role in changing customer’s mind set and some time they substitute other brand with your brand. Your relationship and links will also provide you support during your distribution. Start OTC distribution from your known chemists first.

Any Pharma Third party manufacturing company can provide you these two pharma products. They are very common products and We think, these will be available to every manufacturer. For aceclofanac + paracetamole, you don’t have to invest more but for diclofenac gel, you have to invest in lami tube. Most of lamitube manufacturer make not less than 10000 tube at single time. Packing material investment will be high for gel segment.   • I want to know that is there any special govt. Permission required to advertising my OTC combinations.

For advertisement of OTC products, you don’t need any prior permission from Government but your product doesn’t fall in Schedule “H” Category and other prescription drug category. You can’t advertise products Prescription drugs. These products can’t be sell out without prescription of registered medical practitioner.

Pain relief gel is not Schedule H product. You can promote it without any prior government approval but in case of Cough, you will have to check composition of your cough syrup. If it contains molecule or molecules which comes under prescription drugs, you can’t advertise it. You can advertise cough syrup having non prescription molecules.

Other than above, in case of video advertisement, you have to seek A-certification from authority look after advertisement and commercial advertisement in India. For advertisement at new paper and book, you not need any prior approval. For products other than prescription drugs and medicines, you can display postures at medical stores and other places.
