AMIKACIN

AMIKACIN: 

It is a semisynthetic aminoglycoside virtually identical to its parents compound kanamycin. 
Amikacin is effective against a variety of aerobic gram negative bacilli including those that are resistant to gentamicin and other aminoglycosides. Escherichia coli indole positive and negative proteus species klebsiella, enterobacter, serratia acinetobacter , citrobecterfreundil and providencia stuatii 
It is effective against both pencillinase and non pencillase producing staphyloccus aurens amikacin shows excellent activity against mycobacterium tuberculosis and atypical mycobacteria.

Indication : 

  • Bacteraemias, 
  • Septicaemias, 
  • Respiratory tract bones and joints, CNS, skin, soft tissue , intra abdominal infections burns 
  • Post operative infections.
