Medical representative or MR is an important part of pharmaceutical industry. In other words, medical representative is back bone of pharmaceutical sector and pharmaceutical companies. He is directly responsible for sale of each and every pharmaceutical company whether it is big pharma or small pharma. Role and Responsibility of Medical Rep. is almost same in all companies.

How can we define medical representative or MR?

Medical Representative is defined as a representative who persuade doctors to prescribe their drugs to patients, provide product information, answer their queries, provide information about how to use a drug along with dose required, keep doctor upto date about latest changes in medical sciences, deliver products sample etc. with promoting company and products & generate sale for the company.

  • Market Research about drugs molecules and doctors
  • Organizing meeting with doctors and healthcare professions according to his daily and monthly planing
  • Presentation and demonstration of company products to healthcare professionals and doctors
  • Organizing conferences and seminars for doctors and healthcare professions
  • New business generation
  • Fulfill requirements of healthcare professions and answering queries, and handling complains
  • Reviewing sale and stock availability
  • Completing monthly, quarterly and yearly sales target
  • Maintaining relationships with Doctor and Healthcare professions
  • Daily reporting to seniors about daily work, meetings and performance
  • Market review of new products and services
  • Keeping detailed record of contacts
  • Regular attending monthly, quarterly and yearly meeting of company
  • Keeping upto date about company products, services and schemes
  • Monitoring activities, products and services of competitors

Qualifications:

Big pharmaceutical companies now recruit science bachelor degree holders only, specially B. Pharmacy, B.SC. or Diploma in Pharmacy. Science graduate perform better than other fields candidates but small companies hire other graduates also.

Medical representative job is a field work. You have to meet doctors and chemists differently located in city and location. To complete daily target and appointments, you need own vehicle.

How much area is Covered by a Medical Representative

Area coverage of a Medical representative is depend at Company’s Policy. Company may recruit a single MR for whole District or for number of districts or many MRs in single district/area. Many factors effect company recruitment policy for area given to a medical representative.

To whom does a Medical Representative submit his reports and doctor’s call records (DCR)?

A medical Representative submit his reports to his Area Sales Manager. 

How does a Medical Representative submit his Reports and DCR?

Now almost all companies has online reporting system. Company provides a unique ID and Password to every medical representative to submit his reports at daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly basis. Every Medical Representative has to submit his DCR at daily basis to his area manager.
